5 Ways to Support Military Families

Supporting military families is a great way to show our gratitude for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for our country’s freedom.

From volunteering your time to donating to military charities and showing your support on social media, there are many different ways to honor military families.

Keep reading to find out how.

#1 Volunteer your time

Volunteering your time is one of the most impactful ways to support military families.

By devoting just a few hours every month you can help many military families who are in need of extra help. For example, you can help military spouses during deployments by running errands, helping with childcare, or simply lending an ear.

If you don’t have any military families in your circle, you can reach out to your local military support organizations.

#2 Show your support on social media

Showing your support on social media is a small but meaningful way to thank military families for their sacrifices.

Social media platforms — like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn  — can be used to raise awareness and generate support for military families. All you have to do is post a picture about the cause and encourage others to do as well.

You may also use hashtags such as #SupportMilitaryFamilies and #RedShirtFriday. These hashtags make it easy for others to find and share information and they also help to create a sense of community around the cause.

Moreover, you can also join or create groups to connect with other people who are interested in supporting military families. This can be a great way to share information and resources and create a community!

#3 Donate to military charities

Many organizations such as Active Valor, Workshops For Warriors, and Patriot PAWS Service Dogs provide financial assistance and other resources to military families in need.

If you want to show your support to our troops and veterans, then donating to such charities is a great idea. You can choose to make a one-time donation or opt to make a recurring donation every month.

You may also choose to buy authentic Red Shirt Friday merchandise online at www.redshirtfriday.com. More than 80% of the proceeds go directly to one of the pre-approved charitable organizations.

#4 Say Thank You

According to the Blue Star Families 2021 Military Family Lifestyle Survey, 81% of active duty service members feel that their communities don’t understand the sacrifices and the ongoing challenges that they face.

That said, saying ‘thank you’ is a great way to show your support and appreciation to active service members and veterans. You can send them a simple card or message, and even include a small gift, such as a gift card or a care package.

Another way to say thank you is by visiting military families. You can visit a military family at their home, or if they have a loved one deployed, you can offer to take care of their home and pets.

#5 Wear red on Fridays

The concept of Red Shirt Friday was created to show support to military personnel and their families and to express that they are in our thoughts.

On Fridays, people across the nation wear red and take the time to remember the sacrifices of our troops and veterans. You can choose to wear a red t-shirt, cap, or any other garment of your choice!
